Mayors Rivera and Grebien announce kick-off of joint 2021 Restaurant Weeks

CENTRAL FALLS (August 10, 2021) - Today Mayor Donald R. Grebien and Mayor Maria Rivera announced that Pawtucket and Central Falls would be partnering once again to host joint Restaurant Weeks from August 27th to September 19th.

Following in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, both cities will work to support the local restaurants and celebrate the diversity of the communities by highlighting the amazing cuisine that can be found in Pawtucket and Central Falls.

“We are very excited for this year’s Restaurant Weeks,” said Mayor Donald R. Grebien. “We always look for every opportunity to support our local businesses and with so many new and exciting ways to celebrate, we encourage you to take advantage of everything Pawtucket has to offer. I want to thank Navigant Credit Union for always sponsoring these weeks and the hard work of the Pawtucket Central Falls Restaurant Week Committee and our partners for making this event happen.”

This year Pawtucket and Central Falls Restaurant Weeks announced the return of the social media challenge to help promote restaurants that first appeared last year during the pandemic. The cities announced that customers who visit any local Pawtucket or Central Falls restaurant between August 27 and September 19 and post picture of their visit on social media using #PCFLocalEats will be entered for the chance to win some great restaurant gift cards, and the $250 gift card grand prize.

“We all need to continue to support our beloved restaurants and celebrate the diverse cultures found throughout our Cities of Central Falls and Pawtucket,” said Central Falls Mayor Maria Rivera. “I encourage all Rhode Islanders to visit our cities later this month for Restaurant Weeks, where you can tour a world of flavors with dozens of international authentic cuisines. We’re excited to see our residents and visitors discover something new and share their unforgettable experience during our social media challenge.”

During the joint Restaurant Weeks, this year the cities announced that they will be hosting Empanada-Fest on Saturday, September 18th from 1 pm to 3 pm in Slater Park in Pawtucket which will feature 10 local Pawtucket and Central Falls restaurants in a friendly competition making empanadas and the equivalent from Argentina, Jamaica, Venezuela, and Cape Verde. Tickets are $10 and can purchased be on the Pawtucket Arts Festival website (www.pawtucketartsfestival.org).  Registered participants will receive a “judging card” giving them an empanada sample from each restaurant. Participants can rank their top three favorites and submit the card. At the end of the event, winners will be announced.
