Public Notice: Construction of new high school to begin, temporary Higginson Sports Complex closure

CENTRAL FALLS, RI (March 21, 2024) – We have a historic new Central Falls High School coming soon, about to break ground and enter its exciting construction phase! This is a huge step for our Central Falls students, families, and future of our city.

As we plan ahead for the new high school construction period, we want to notify our community about the inability to utilize our Higginson Sports Complex due to the construction period, until further notice. We understand many residents utilize Higginson and this will be an adjustment. Thank you for your patience during this important construction period.

Below, we’re sharing a list below of parks and outdoor spaces located around our city (open 5:00am-9:00pm) that we encourage you to utilize during Higginson’s closure.

Available parks and outdoor spaces during Higginson’s closure:

  • Pierce Park Sports Complex – 975 High St. (basketball court & baseball field available)
  • River Island park - 1417-1449 High St. (track available)
  • Cowden Court – 227 Cowden St. (*temporary* basketball court coming April 2024)
  • Veterans Memorial Park – 16 Hunt St.
  • Project GOAL Mini-Pitch – Ledge St. (Futsal courts available)
  • Governor Lincoln Almond Park – 61 Crossman St.
  • Sacred Heart Tennis Courts - Sacred Heart Ave. (coming spring 2024)
  • Diversity Garden – 26 Phillips Street (coming summer 2024)
  • Coming next year: New CFHS Basketball Courts (included in Phase 1 of school construction)
